Latest Updates from Our Project:
Artwork upgrades and sculpts :)

Its update time and even though we are only about 8 weeks into the post production phase we are making good headway with little to stop us :)
So we thought we'd do a quick update to show you some of the progress, it's still early, but there's always a few bits we can show.
Artwork
As mentioned in the last video update, most of the time has been spent finishing the artwork and moving it from prototype to finished game. The terrain has always had the finished artwork as that's what we do best so that was all prepared, just tweaks here and there. We also needed to finish the artwork for the terrain items we made available while the KS was running... that shuttle was never planned, but somehow it just happened as the project progressed :)
Other components in the game were only about 75% finished artwork wise and that was by design. We wanted to see how the feel of the game developed in genre style and play before setting the artwork in stone, now we are tackling that phase and are very happy with the results.
.
You may notice that on some of the cards there is a symbol in the lower part of the character picture. This is centred right where the die-cutting tool will cut the space out for the armour. When the character is not wearing armour this part of the card stays in place and the character will get that bonus.
For example Arianna above get a 1+ to any manoeuvre she makes as she is fast, agile and trained for combat, but when she's wearing armour, it's lost as this part of the card is removed and the armour token replaces it.
Gak has a close combat skill allowing him to add extra dice to his attacks, this represents the fact that he has four arms, however when he wears armour, often human armour, this restricts his ability to unlock his quad arms, he gains protection, but at the cost of movement... and so on for some other characters...
Some other very large characters might not be able to wear armour at all, because they are just too large, but they will probably already have a pretty good natural armour... let's wait and see ;o)
Miniature sculpts
Here is another area we are very happy with... the miniatures are coming along very nicely. We already had all the minis designed, sculpted and produced for the game before launching the Kickstarter and many more were done ready for stretch goals and others sculpted while the KS was running. For those that were unlocked and still needed sculpts that's what we've been doing.
.
This takes time as each mini needs to be sculpted with many phases for each one. There are the basic form and details, then adjustments are made based on the original sketches and also what can be actually be achieved in casting along with many other factors.
.
Here's some more characters on the sculpting table now :)
.
Once these are done we will also be cutting and keying the minis. This is the process used where some of the minis have a part removed so they can be moulded and cast, then reassembled in the factory ready for you so you don't have to assemble anything. Can't wait to get these to the factory for casting :oD
Rules and game mechanics
We've also been hard at work with the rules testing new events, weapons, advanced rules and similar.
.
Backerkit Pledge Manager
The pledge manager's nearly done, we've been taking our time, making sure everything is present and correct and the Byzantine shipping rules work. We know you guys tend to prefer to get the pledge manager near pay day so we'll probably send the invites out towards the end of this month.
Also, for the first time we'll have a pre-order page for late backers, that means you can just jump in without having to email us. If you've already emailed us about late backing you're on you're own special list so will get an invite along with the regular backers.
That's about it for now, just wanted to keep you posted on the progress. It's a long way until November, but we are working night and day to make sure we get ahead of ourselves... after 5 years of KS's we know what's needed to deliver on time... which we have so far on ours... Terrain, minis and game components... BRING IT ON!
Until the next update

January update and BGG
– Wed, Jan 24, 2018 at 12:53:32 AM
Hi, guys, Christmas and is now out of the way and we're back to burning the candle at both ends (how we like it!) Here's Col to tell you what we've been up to:
.
BOARD GAME GEEK & OUTRIGHT BRIBERY
It's now the final vote for the 20 Most Anticipated Games of 2018. Only a few days left as the voting ends Sunday January 28th (that means I will finally stop hassling you!)
Remember, if you've already voted it was for the nomination only so you'll need to cast your vote again! (don't quote me on that, BGG is very confusing!)
First you'll need to login to BGG to vote (it's painless to sign up) and then go to this link:
If you scroll down the page to the poll you'll find Core Space is nominated in 8 different categories:
Overall
Original/Innovative
Crowd Funded
Cooperative
Solitaire
Strategy
Thematic
Sci-Fi
Click the check box next to Core Space in each of the above categories, scroll to the bottom of the final category and hit the vote button; after a few seconds it shows you the current poll results.
(Thanks to Jason for chasing this up in the incomprehensible jumble that is BGG!)
Bribe time!
If we make the final top 20 we'll give every core backer an extra 2 unique cargo crates (re-skinned in in a cool orange colour).
That means that the Core game will come with 4 large cargo crates instead of 2. Of course, you'll also get those extras in your stretch goals so it's actually 4 extra cargo crates in total FREE.... Shiny :)
If every backer votes we would do that easily, so go on. Go on, go on, go on. Are you still here? Why aren't you voting?? :)
.
PLEDGE MANAGER
We're still dotting the J's and crossing the P's on our Backerkit pledge manager, as Col said it should be good to go within the next four weeks or so, we'll give you more info closer to the time.
.
WE'RE MOVING!
After five happy years we're moving from Wayland Games to Games Quest. That means from February 2018 Games Quest will handle the distribution for our webshop and deal with our future Kickstarter fulfillments.
How does this affect you? Very little. We anticipate a short delay in posting out webshop orders but otherwise the move will be seamless. We will be doing it at the end of January/early February; we'll post details on our webshop of any possible delays.
Until the next update...
Cheers :)

Call to Arms!!!

Happy New year all, 2018 has started and Core Space is coming this year :)
Okay, now down to business. We need your help to make Core Space part of a special shortlist of games on Board Game Geek. This will help us stay in focus through the development of the game and its launch to retail once we have fulfilled your rewards.
.
What do I need to do?...
It's simple, just click the link below and give Core Space a 'thumbs up'. It will ask you to create an account if you don't already have one, please don't let that little stumbling block hold you back, it only takes seconds.
This will keep us in the top 50 Most Anticipated Games of 2018. Then in a few weeks we vote again to get in the final 20 games shortlist.
How does it help?...
Keeping us on this list and in the eyes of the public will help drive the retail side of Core Space, this means larger exposure and more popularity for game expansions and community support. Basically a stronger Core Space galaxy.
Currently we have 274 thumbs up and are just in the running for the top 50. However the vote closes on Saturday and with 1500 plus backers we could really smash the target and be in the final top 20 vote.
You've supported the KS and we would be very humbled if we could get you all to help us here too.
Anything else?...
Well, it's very early in the new year, but we already have some prototypes coming... so I'll just leave you with this photo :)
Until the next one...
Colin & Wayne :)
Seasons Greetings from Core Space :)

Just wanted to do a quick little update to wish everyone seasons greetings...
If you are lucky enough to have time off over the holidays, then make sure you put a little time aside to play games, either with family and friends or even by yourself. Drop yourself into another world and do what must be done.
Best wishes to you all and much love
Colin and Wayne :)
The Trader's Thank you!

Thank You...
Core Space, the final frontier. These are the voyages of two traders, their five-year mission (so far): to explore strange new terrains, to seek out new gamers and new communities, to boldly go where no game has gone before... (insert 60's music here)
.
Thank you all for making it a reality. It has been a 5 year journey for us so far and with many more years to come. We started Battle Systems with an eye on making a game. We wanted that game to be bigger than its own box and not be constrained by its contents.
We had an idea to start simple and build worlds to hold any future game... Sci-fi stations, Dungeons, Urban buildings, more Sci-fi locations, each time expanding and tweaking the design as well as pushing the boundaries of cardboard technology. Finally the foundations were laid and we launched our first game.
The miniatures game market is massive and for Core Space to make as big an impact as it just has is truly amazing, which means you guys have enjoyed the concept, characters and galaxy that Core Space is set in.
Thank you all so much for helping us bring the game to life, its journey has only just begun.
Hang on so what happens now then boys?...
Well many of you will already know the answer to that, but for those of you who have backed Core Space as their first Kickstarter or maybe this is your first Battle Systems campaign, this is how we pilot our freighter ...
Admin...
First thing that happens is we spend a couple of weeks doing all the housekeeping. Taking all the KS achievements, and re-slotting them into the Core Space production plan. We have to build the pledge manager and focus on getting every part of the KS offering just right.
If you have emailed us in the last 48 hours we will reply to you in the next couple of days, we get thousands of emails over the course of a campaign and the catch up takes time :)
Pledge Manager...
In about 4-6 weeks we then send out a link to the Pledge manager. There you will be able to see your pledge and any extra funds you have added. You can then simply allocate those funds to whatever it was you chose on the campaign. So make a note now while it's fresh in your mind. :)
You will also be able to add more items too if you desire... need another shuttle?... wish you grabbed that Miniatures Mega Deal?... no problem, you can add those in the pledge manager too.
The pledge manager will also charge you your shipping and collect your address and contact details. If those details change later in the year we can update them for you too - as long as you tell us when/if that happens.
Kickstarter Updates...
Over the coming months we will be posting updates on the progress of Core Space. You will be able to see it coming together at each stage. When we post an update Kickstarter will send you an email and it's very important that you read the updates. They may have important information like shipping dates and action needed by you so stay frosty :)
Now all you need to do is sit back and watch Core Space take shape... occasionally take some action... and then receive your galactic game goodness.
Final Frontier...
To all you lovely guys and girls thank you once again for all your support in helping us break the final frontier. May your next missions bring you valuable salvage, trade and remember, if you do get left behind.... don't use the emergency teleporter, it aint bloody worth it!!!
